Getting started with an account
To contribute to curating these pages, you will need to set up an account, similarly to on many other sites. We give our curators editing rights over specific topics, and we are encouraging collective responsibility for maintaining and extending those aspects of the knowledge base. (It's not like Wikipedia, where anyone can change anything.)
If you haven't already talked to us about this, please send asimong@growingthecommons.org an e-mail, letting us know:
- your real name
- your e-mail address
- your preferred username
- which topics you are offering to help with curating
- if you would like to have an organisation next to your name, what is that, and does it have a web site?
- if we don't already know, a little about your knowledge and experience with these topics
You will be able to set your own password when you log in for the first time; and you can change it whenever you wish.
What happens next
This is what we would like to happen…
- We set up your account on DokuWiki
- Fill in your home page with anything you like — there is a template to help you here — more help at editing saving reverting .
- You can find other people's home pages through the Sitemap, under the
user:namespace - You might like, among other things, to link to the topics you are helping to curate
- It would be great to have a photo of everyone, see below for a little more explanation …
- We think it's important that you watch pages that you are helping to curate.
Adding your photo
In the user home page template, we have put a placeholder, like:
{{location-of-your-photo?250x250}}.
From the web
If there is photo of you on the web, anywhere, that you like, you can simply put the URL in place of “location-of-your-photo”
— but leave the ?250x250, which will make everyone's photo the same size — you don't need to worry about the size of the original.
If you have a photo that is not square, the 250x250 will crop it to be square. Check that this works for you, and ask for help if it doesn't.
I'm following along with this to illustrate what happens. I could use one of my photos on the web, at URL:
https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/1456257276658913284/menJaSAo_400x400.jpg to give
{{https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/1456257276658913284/menJaSAo_400x400.jpg?250x250}}
which is shown as
From your file system
Please see the documentation on uploading images, then inserting images.
The end product in DokuWiki syntax will look like this, with a few more details:
{{2009_asimong.jpg?250}}
which is displayed as
If you manage all that, congratulations! If not, please ask for help, either from another curator, or our team. We will hold tutorial workshops if and when they are wanted.
