Concept pages

The main job of curators is to provide and maintain useful, high-quality information about the topic(s) that they are curating. However, some ideas are relevant across many different topics. This is where concept pages play a useful role.

One of the first examples we have tried is the concept of consensus. Consensus is a concept that is relevant to many areas of the Commons, and there are different opinions about just what is meant by the term. So we have a separate page for the concept. There are advantages with this arrangement:

1. We can explain what we mean on this wiki, without needing to explain it every time it is mentioned. Ideally, we give reasons for our choice of meaning, and refer to other meanings and contexts that are separate from the Commons.
2. By using the Backlinks button, you can see and go to any page where the concept is linked to. This wouldn't work if we simply linked to an external definition from every place it is mentioned.
3. We don't want to duplicate definitions that can be found e.g. on Wikipedia, but we do want to point to any issues around the concept that are particularly relevant to the Commons.
